2018 has come to an end but there are a lot of Hollywood moments from last year to remember, including films and TV shows that made us laugh, cry, and scream. It can be safely said that there have been some worthy additions this year when it comes to quality filmmaking that just takes your breath away, making 2018 a fantastic one for the entertainment industry.
Although there a lot of films and shows from 2018 that will undoubtedly be missed, the new year is already upon us which only means one thing: a whole host of brand new films and seasons. There are a number of movies and series that we are desperately looking forward to in 2019, so without further ado, here is our list of movies and series that can’t be missed this year.
It: Chapter Two
Judging from the success of the first film, It, the coming of its sequel It: Chapter Two was obvious from the get-go; the horror, thriller film is going to bring back the horrific clown character Pennywise, as he tortures the grown-up members of the Losers’ Club 27 years after their first encounter.
The first Stephen King-based movie, with a budget of $35 million, managed to rake in a whopping $700.4 million at the box office. That said, the second film, which will hit the theaters on Sept. 6, 2019, is much-awaited and will hopefully level up or exceed expectations, especially since the original film set the bar so high.
Captain Marvel
And the wait is finally over; Marvel is gearing up to premiere its first female-dedicated film in the upcoming Captain Marvel, which stars Brie Larson (known for her role in the movie “Room”) who will play lead Carol Danvers. The plot of the movie will be set in the ‘90s, even before the formation of the infamous Avengers, therefore seamlessly continuing the saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The much-awaited sequel shall be hitting the big screen on March 8, 2019.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6
After its successful wrap-up of season 5, the world was shaken and fans were angered over Fox’s cancelation of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a series that revolves around the premier police team in Brooklyn’s 99th precinct starring Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), Sergeant Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), and many more.
After the internet blew up following Fox’s decision, NBC was quick to try and control the situation, eventually promising fans that a sixth season shall indeed be produced. Thankfully, the comedy series will be back on Jan. 10, 2019.
Pokemon Detective Pikachu
Our beloved pocket monster, Pikachu, is coming to the big screen on May 10, 2019, as an adorable yet very convincing detective voiced by “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds. The movie is a long time coming, undoubtedly, as Pokemon still remains the highest-grossing media franchise of all time. The story goes like this: a man named Tim is on the search for his missing father, Harry Goodman, and on the journey he shall encounter the yellow detective.
The Lion King
Remakes and remaster versions of old classics is certainly a trend that is quickly becoming very popular. Case in point , Disney’s “The Lion King,” which is showing on July 19, 2019. With promos and trailers already circulating, fans can expect nothing less than perfection for this film, with voice acting done by actors such as Beyonce as Nala, Donald Glover as Simba, Billy Eichner as Timon, and reprising his role is James Earl Jones as Mufasa, since he was so amazing in the original 1994 film.
Zombieland 2
After a decade of waiting, “Zombieland” finally gets its sequel, titled “Zombieland 2” – again, as the name suggests, we shall see the foursome take on an evolved generation of zombies from the ones seen in the first movie. Most of old cast and crew from the original 2009 picture is back on board, including director Ruben Fleischer and scriptwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. What’s more, people can again expect the original yet unconventional team, comprised of Woody Harrelson (Tallahassee), Jesse Eisenberg (Columbus), Emma Stone (Wichita), and Abigail Breslin (Little Rock), to bring A+ humor coupled with some rather creative means of beating the undead.
Secret Life of Pets 2
The 2016 hit movie showing the life of the pets when their masters are away is deservingly getting its sequel called “Secret Life of Pets 2.” Directed by Chris Renaud, this animated film will be released on June 7, 2019. Coming back are Snowball, the white adorable yet feisty bunny, voiced by Kevin Hart; Gidget, a beautiful white Pomeranian, voiced by Jenny Slate; and Max, the lead character that will be played by Patton Oswalt, who will replace the original voice actor Louis C.K.
Game of Thrones Season 8
Of course, this list won’t be complete without the addition of HBO series “Game of Thrones,” which will be back April 2019 for its eighth and final season, perhaps the most awaited amongst all of the returning shows next year. All good things must come to an end, as they say, which in this case is true for the George R.R. Martin-based masterpiece that stars Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, and Peter Dinklage, alongside many others.
