With COVID-19 having disrupted millions of lives, various governments and others in authority have been making efforts to comfort people in any way they can.
The British royal family is no different. And Prince Williams’ visits to “The Passage” homeless shelter thrice before Christmas is a testament to the royalty’s solidarity with the worst affected.
Let’s take a closer look at The Duke of Cambridge’s visits, shall we?
Prince Williams’ association with “The Passage”
A spokesperson for the shelter revealed a few days ago that in an attempt to help people in their hard times, Prince William visited the shelter on three separate occasions ahead of Christmas. In the photos shared by The Rooftop, Prince William is seen wearing a mask and apron while he lends a helping hand in managing the supplies in paper bags.
Prince William has been supporting “The Passage” for a long time. He’s been a patron of the organization, and during the visit, the prince also had a few words with the residents. He talked about their experiences in the hard times of pandemic. Along with other volunteers, Prince William prepared food for the people who’ve been shifted to the accommodation in an emergency.

The shelter for the homeless has helped millions of people during the UK’s national lockdowns by providing over 70,000 meals in a single day. Tweeting about Prince William’s visit to their centre, the organization said that during the lockdowns they learned about the determination of many individuals to help the needy. They thanked all the staff members and other volunteers who lent a helping hand during tough times.
Multiple visits by the Duke
Prince William has been visiting “The Passage” ever since he was little. In 1993, he first visited along with his late mother, Princess Diana. After that, he visited the homeless center on several occasions, including in 2018 when he came along with Mary Berry as part of the BBC festive show, and then in 2019, when he became their royal patron. The guest book of the center has William’s name penned right under his mother’s name.

During an interview a little while back, William shared his thoughts about visiting the centre. He revealed that as a child his visits left a deep impression on him. He’s also been quoted saying that he understands how important it is to make sure that all people including the poorest are treated with respect and dignity. He believes that they should be given opportunities so that they can explore their potential in life.
Appreciating William’s efforts, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, head of Catholic Church in England and Wales, said that the Duke is committed to help the needy people.
