Meghan Markle, aged 39, married into the British royal family to Duke of Sussex in 2018 and since then has changed its landscape entirely.
Life has been quite eventful for Markle ever since she stepped into the royal limelight. Soon after their grand royal wedding, Prince Harry, the son of late Princess Diana, stepped down from royal duties and bought a private residence in Southern California. The couple also turned down the royal stipend that was offered to the royal family from tax revenue.
It doesn’t stop there. In the year, Meghan Markle also pressed charges against the newspapers like The Daily Mail, which were designated licenses for royal coverage, suing them for copyright infringement and invasion of privacy.
Markle Set to Vote in US Presidential Election!
News emerged on November 3rd that the Duchess of Sussex is voting. This doesn’t really come as a surprise since she was recently seen in many campaigns that urged the public to vote and let their voices be heard. Since then, she has become the first person from the royal family to have voted in the USA’s elections. However, Sources did not reveal whether she cast her vote in private or through the local voting station set up in Santa Barbara, California.
Though not the first royal woman of American nationality, Meghan Markle has emerged as the first American royal figure to partake in the election. Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, too possessed an American nationality when she married British King Edward VIII. However, it is unknown and unheard that she ever cast a vote in the elections after emerging as a royal figure.
The Most Important Elections, According to Meghan Markle
In the talk show organized on Channel ABC in honor of Times100 annual issue, Meghan took the platform to emphasize the importance of voting in the general elections. She said that elections hold phenomenal value- the current elections even more so are the most critical ones in defining American values.
Friends closest to her have confirmed that the couple is taking a keen interest in the ongoing proceeding and eagerly await the result. Unfortunately, Prince Harry was not entitled to vote since members of the royal family are abstained from taking part in political affairs. Owing to this decree, the Prince has also never voted in the UK prime minister elections.
Women Should Use Their Voting Right
As a strong feminist, Meghan insists that women should use their voting right. In a conversation with the feminist icon Gloria Steinem back in August, Meghan Markle reminded women of how hard the struggle was to obtain an identity and recognition. She also told them of how, after decades of work, they have obtained an equal footing in the political grounds, and it is critical they do not let their voices go unheard.
