2020 seems to be the most unexpected year ever- who would have thought that Queen Elizabeth would resort to using video calls just like the rest of us?
A Virtual Audience
Only recently, the royal addressed the foreign ambassador, who visited the Buckingham Palace, through a video call from the Windsor Castle. The Queen and Prince Phillip have been taking strict precautions against the COVID-19 outbreak and have isolated themselves in Windsor Castle.
The Queen welcomed the Hungarian Ambassador Dr. Ferenc Kumin, who visited the Buckingham Palace alongside his wife, and was also accompanied by the ambassadors of Georgia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
The Queen was seen in her evergreen pearl necklace and a white dress. Since March, she has been in quarantine and has since made a video call to acknowledge the hard work of the front line workers and the caregivers during these hard times.
According to the Chief Executive of the Carers Trust, Mr. Gareth Howells, the Queen seemed to be quite comfortable with the camera and that if she keeps up with it, she will do great. She has also taken part in many video calls, one of which was in honor of her 73rd wedding anniversary.
The Queen also participated in a video call with the UK armed forces and spoke with their representatives. As the ruling monarch, she is to receive regular updates regarding the military and its operation.
The Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge have been busy themselves as they also joined the video call with the children of Key Workers at the Casterton Primary Academy in Burnley.
Can We Expect More Virtual Events?
With Christmas festivities right around the corner, we may even see the Queen addressing the nation through a video call. It has been reported that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be spending their Christmas in a simple manner, given the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite all the Queen’s strict precautions for her safety, she has made time for one of her favorite hobbies: horse-riding. Isolation and social distancing measures can really get on our nerves at times, but, the Queen knows very well how to keep herself busy while in quarantine. She and her husband Prince Phillip were photographed riding their horses around the Windsor Home Park.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on everyone but, that hasn’t stopped the royal family from carrying on their work and their royal duties and responsibilities.
