The ’80s and the ’90s gave us some timeless hits and widely outlandish fads. Behind those hits and crazy fashion during that era, we have some of our favorite pop stars who helped characterize that colorful generation.
Today, most of these pop stars seem to have dropped off of the face of the earth, and for celebrities who once had the cameras following their every move, we are curious about what they are up to these days. We’ve done you a solid and rounded up a list of past pop stars with details about their lives beyond their most famous years.
Björn Ulvaeus – Estimated $300 Million
Björn Kristian Ulvaeus is a producer, songwriter, and composer who is best known for his time with the Swedish pop group, ABBA. Once the group disbanded, Ulvaeus moved over to producing work and he had a hand in putting together the 1999 musical, Mama Mia!. He co-produced the movie alongside his close friend and former bandmate, Benny Andersson.
In 2005, he faced some legal trouble over back taxes with the Swedish Tax Agency claiming that he owed an estimated $12.8 million. Ulvaeus decided to make the payment just as a precaution but two and a half years later, a judge found ruled in his favor – meaning that he never did owe anything.
Linn Berggren – Unknown Net Worth
Having always loved singing, it came as no surprise when Linn Berggren and her band, Ace of Base, became a hit worldwide in the ’90s with songs like All That She Wants and Don’t Turn-Around. They became the third-best-selling Swedish band of all time just behind the legendary Abba and Roxette.

However, the band split in 2012. Linn made it clear in 2015 that she has no interest in fame and money, as she is enjoying living a simple life right now. After all, she’s always kept private, even at the peak of her worldwide success.
Benny Andersson – Estimated $230 Million
In 1966, Swedish composer-musician Benny Andersson linked up with Björn Ulvaeus and they started working on songs together. He was also a member of ABBA up until it disbanded in 1982. He continued his work as a composer, working on several musicals, including the 2018 film, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

In 2001, Andersson formed his band Benny Anderssons Orkester (BAO) and since then, he has released five albums as part of the 16-member act. Andersson was previously married to former bandmate Anni-Frid Lyngstad after a nine-year-long engagement but they divorced in 1981. He’s now married to Mona Norklit and their son Ludvig has followed suit, forming his own successful band.
Chrissie Hynde – Estimated $12 Million
Christine Hynde is one of the iconic musicians from the late ’80s and ’90s. She is a member of The Pretenders, a rock band that she has founded in 1978. In 1979, the band released their first single Brass In Pocket that reached the number one spot on the UK charts.

In the 2000s onwards, Hynde stayed on with The Pretenders releasing new recordings and embarking on numerous tours worldwide. According to Hynde, the band’s new album Hate for Sale and her solo album Valve Bone Woe, in collaboration with artist Marcus de Vries, maybe out in 2019. At 67 years old, Hynde still looks great, thanks to a meat-free healthy diet.
George Michael – Estimated $200 Million
George Michael was an English singer who became famous for being a part of the duo Wham! which rose to prominence with their single Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go. He then embarked on a solo career and became one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His debut single Careless Whisper became an international hit and remains to be a popular classic today.

He also won a number of accolades throughout his career, but sadly, his life was plagued by substance abuse, eventually taking a toll on his body. George died at age 53. His last released album, while he was alive, was Symphonica in 2014, two years before his passing.
